OMAHA, Neb. -- Milwaukee alumna Emily McClellan opened her 2016 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials with a 31st-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Additionally, Oakland's Rachel Waite and Wright State junior Mitch Stover opened their events at the competition.
McClellan, swimming in her second Olympic Trials, touched the wall in 1:09.69 in finishing 31st. Also swimming in the 100 breast, Waite posted a time of 1:13.22. The pair will also compete in the 200 breaststroke on Thursday, June 30.
Stover began his trials in the 100 backstroke. In the morning's trials, Stover hit the wall in 57.53, good for 134th out of 183 competitors.
Horizon League student-athletes will be off tomorrow before Devon Nowicki and Kile Aukerman both compete in the 200 breaststroke on Wednesday, June 29.
