Missouri State Payne Stewart Memorial
The last time the Valparaiso women teed it up, freshman Sydney Shrum was named the Horizon League Women's Golfer of the Week. Shrum shot rounds of 79-75-154 to finish in a tie for sixth-place at the Butler Fall Invitaitonal on Oct. 8. Her 154 total matched the fifth-lowest 36-hole score in program history.
Valparaiso will face host Missouri State, Wichita State, Bradley, Creighton, Drake, Drury, Missouri State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, Redlands C.C., South Dakota, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, UALR, and UMKC.
The teams will play 36-holes on Monday; starting with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. ET. Tuesday’s final round also begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
Toledo Rocket Classic
Detroit, Youngstown State, Cleveland State and Oakland begin play in Port Clinton, Ohio, at the Rocket Classic on Monday. Toledo will host the two-day, 54-hole tournament.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday followed by a final 18-hole round on Tuesday. Both days are formatted in a shotgun start with each morning round beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
The four Horizon League schools will be joined by host Toledo, Akron, Bowling Green, Chicago State, Dayton, Indiana State, Loyola, Ohio, and Western Michigan.
Detroit has posted a pair of top-four efforts so far in the fall taking third at Chicago State's Cougar Classic and fourth at the Cleveland State Invitational.
At Cleveland State on Sept. 24, Detroit totaled a 630 as senior Christina Thorne tied for second (150) and senior Lindsey Lammers placed fifth (151).
Thorne currently leads the team with a stoke average of 74.2 average.
Youngstown State last competed on Oct. 8 at the Robert Morris Classic. Sophomore Emily Rohanna (82-77-159) was fourth and junior Allison Mitzel (81-80-161) was fifth overall.
The Penguins placed third as a team, shooting rounds of 327-327-654.
Cleveland State was led by Allyson Hackman at The Preview on Oct. 8. The Sophomore shot rounds of 80-86-166 to finish in a tie for 47th. The Vikings finished in 16th place with rounds of 342-358-700.
Hackman leads the team in scoring at 78.9 strokes per round.
Oakland will look to regain form that saw it post season season best scores of 301 and 305 at the Redbird Invitational (Sept. 8-9) to start the season.
The Golden Grizzlies have been led by the steady play of Julia Montgomery. The freshman leads the team with a stroke average of 78.38. Six of her eight rounds this season have been in the 70s.
Last time out, Oakland finished in 13th place at The Preview, shooting rounds of 333-329-662.
Dayton Flyer Invitational
On the men’s side, Cleveland State, Valparaiso, Wright State, and Youngstown State tee it up at the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
The four Horizon League schools will compete against host Dayton, Dayton, IPFW, Robert Morris, Evansville, Butler, Northern Kentucky, IUPUI, Loyola, Western Kentucky, St. Bonaventure, Bradley, and Cincinnati State
Cleveland State has been led by two-time Horizon League Golfer of the Year Andrew Bailey. The senior has won the Horizon League Golfer of the Week twice this fall. On Oct. 8, Bailey led Cleveland State (295-289-302-886) to a seventh-place finish at the Bearcat Invitational, carding rounds of 72-68-73-213 at The Traditions G.C. to finish in fourth-place.
Bailey leads the team and the Horizon League in scoring at 70.3 strokes per round.
Valparaiso last competed on Sept. 29 at the John Dallio Memorial. Junior Joe Harris led the Crusaders to a ninth-place finish, shooting rounds of 71-71-78-224 to finish a tie for fourth place.
For the season, freshman Peter Webb leads Horizon League defending champions in scoring at 73.58 storkes per round.
Wright State tied for 13th place at the Bearcat Invitational on Oct. 8, shooting rounds of 298-303-307-908). Freshman Ryan Wenzler led the way for the Raiders as he tied for 28th with a three-round score of 223 (72-76-75).
Wezler leads the squad in scoring at 74.58 strokes per round.
Youngstown State finished in sixth-place at the Bearcat Invitational on Oct. 8. The Penguins finished a 54-hole total of 885 highlighted by a second-round 289.
Sophomore Brandon Pluchinsky led the way with a 220 following rounds of 72, 72 and 76 for the tournament.
