Horizon League Men's Athlete-of-the-Week
Tom Grant, Detroit, Sophomore, Farmington Hills, Mich.
Placed second in the long jump with a leap of 22'11" (6.98 m). Also placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.88. In the prelims he ran a time of 14.78, his first sub-15 second time, just .04 seconds off of the school record. Grant places first in both of these events on the Horizon League top performances list.

Blackman ran the fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time in the Horizon League this spring, the second-fastest steeplechase time of his career and the third-fastest steeplechase time in Butler track and field history at the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Stanford University. Blackman finished the race in 8:48.03, which was two seconds shy of his personal best of 8:46.05, recorded last year. He was six seconds shy of the Butler record of 8:42.5, set by Mark Tucker in 2002.
Nick Gazis, UIC, Junior, Skokie, Ill.
University of Illinois at Chicago junior throwing specialist Nick Gazis continues to shine for the Flames, as the Skokie, Ill., product took home the discus title with a toss of 164'5" at the Butler Twilight Meet on Saturday afternoon.
Eric Wheeler, UW-Milwaukee, Freshman, Monroe, Wis.
Eric Wheeler took advantage of the competition during the WIU Tune Up Meet on May 1. The freshman hurdler used the tune up meet to capture his first two outdoor wins of his collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Wheeler ran to victories in the 110 and 400-meter hurdles by posting times of 15.17 and 56.61, both good to claim the top spots on UWM's top times list. Wheeler entered Saturday's competition after having placed 22nd in the 110-meter hurdles and 25th in the 400-meter hurdles at the Drake Relays.
Kurt Michaelis, Youngstown State, Senior, Toledo, Ohio
Youngstown State senior Kurt Michaelis broke his own school record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3 minutes, 47.03 seconds at the Cardinal Invitational. His time topped his previous best by .14 seconds and was good enough to qualify for the NCAA Regionals in the event.
