Merrilees, McClellan Named Swimmers of the Week and Heger, Grant Named Divers of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS—Oakland’s Jorden Merrilees (Brisbane, Australia) and Milwaukee’s Emily McClellan (Delavan, Wis.) have been named Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Week while Milwaukee’s K.J. Heger (Rockford, Ill.) and Oakland’s Tricia Grant (West Bloomfield, Mich.) have been named Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Divers of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-21.

Merrilees swept his events in the season-opening meet against UIC and was Oakland’s lone three-event winner for the men in individual events. Merrilees won the 200-free in a time of 1:39.73 and 500-free in a time of 4:32.03. He then went on to win the 200-individual medley with a time of 1:53.56 helping the Golden Grizzles’ men’s team tally a 179-119 victory over the Flames.

McClellan broke her own pool record with an NCAA B-cut time in the 100-breast with a time of 1:01.47 in her season debut against Grand Valley State. In the meet, McClellan also won the 100-fly in a time of 57.92 and 200-free relay with a time of 1:36.69. The 200-medley relay team with McClellan and teammates broke the pool record with a time of 1:45.71 and the Panthers posted a team winning score of 191, besting the Lakers by 79 points.

Heger swept the diving events in the dual meet against Grand Valley State, recording wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter. He won the 1-meter with a score of 334.05 and broke his own school record on the 3-meter board with a score of 378.97. In both events, Heger posted NCAA Zone qualifying scores.

Grant recorded winning scores in each of her diving events in the dual meet against UIC. She scored a 319.80 in the 1-meter and 274.20 in the 3-meter. The Golden Grizzlies’ women’s team beat the Flames 178-108.

The Oakland women’s swimming and diving team is back in action Saturday, Oct. 26 as they take on Illinois in a dual meet. Milwaukee men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams travel to Valparaiso for a conference matchup on Friday, Oct. 25.
