INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee sophomore midfielder Laurie Bell (Poynton, England) is the Horizon League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Cleveland State senior goalkeeper Brad Stuver (Twinsburg, Ohio.) has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 1-7. The award is the second of the year for Bell, while Stuver collects the honor for the fourth time in his career.
Milwaukee (5-4-2, 1-0-2 Horizon) went on the road and retained the Chancellor’s Cup with a 2-2 draw at Green Bay before earning a tense 2-1 overtime victory over UIC at Engelmann Stadium. Cleveland State (5-5-1, 0-1-0 Horizon) rolled past Belmont, 4-0, in a midweek non-conference match.
Bell utilized his free kick prowess throughout the week, netting the equalizing goal in the Panthers’ draw with Green Bay, his team-leading fifth goal of the year. The sophomore then assisted on the game-winning tally on Saturday night, with Jamie Bladen heading in Bell’s free kick.
Leading the Horizon League in shots per game with 3.7, Bell sits second in the League in points (14) and goals (5).
Stuver turned in six saves to shutout Belmont, helping Cleveland State hold the Bruins at bay before cruising in the second half. The clean sheet for the senior was his fifth of the season, easily leading the Horizon League.
