INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior outside hitter Leanne Felsing and Valparaiso University sophomore outside hitter Angie Porché were selected to the 2007 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Midwest Regional Team on Wednesday (Dec. 5).
In addition, Cleveland State University freshman middle hitter Amy Benz and senior setter Mel Snyder were named Honorable Mention in the Midwest Region.
Milwaukee's Felsing was selected to the regional team for the second straight season. Felsing's All-Region selection adds to a 2007 résumé, which includes being named Horizon League Player of the Year. In 2007, the Panther senior guided UWM to a League-best 26-3 record and its fifth straight regular-season title. Felsing also tallied a NCAA-best 18 triple-doubles and was named the League's Offensive Player of the Week twice this season (Aug. 27 and Sept. 24).
Valparaiso's Porché earned Midwest regional team honors for the first time in her career following a 2007 campaign that saw her lead the League in kills per game with a 4.67 average.
The Crusader sophomore was also selected to the All-Horizon League Team and helped Valpo to a 21-12 mark and an appearance in the Horizon League Championship title match against Cleveland State. Although the Crusaders dropped a 3-1 decision in the title match to the Vikings, Porché was named to the All-Tournament team.
Cleveland State's Benz and Snyder earned Honorable Mention after helping the Vikings to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championship and Horizon League Championship crown. CSU also posted a 23-8 record, including a 13-3 League mark to finish second in the regular-season standings.
Benz's Honorable Mention to the Midwest regional team caps an already impressive freshman season where she was named the League's Newcomer of the Year after leading the circuit in hitting percentage (.334) and finishing second in blocks (1.50). Benz was also selected to the All-Horizon League team and named Most Valuable Player of the championship.
Snyder's honorable mention selection is her first AVCA postseason honor. In her final season at CSU, the Viking setter led the League with 11.94 assists per game and was named to the All-Horizon League team.
