INDIANAPOLIS – Milwaukee sophomore Elise Sigg (Blanchardville, Wis.) has been named Horizon League Women’s Runner of the Week, while her teammate, senior Reigna Pierce (Racine, Wis.), has earned has earned Horizon League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, for the week beginning Jan. 31.
Competing at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame, Sigg finished ninth in the 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 9:43.97. Sigg’s effort was the second-fastest time in Milwaukee history and broke her personal best by nearly 25 seconds.
The mark was the third-best 3,000 time in the Horizon League this season with just over two weeks remaining until the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 26-27.
Pierce also etched her name in the Milwaukee record books, leaping 39’7 1/4” in the triple jump, ranking third in Panthers history. The effort gave Pierce a 10th-place result in the meet, while it ranks as the second-best triple jump in the Horizon League this season. The top-ranking long jumper in the Horizon League this season, the senior took 12th in the long jump with a leap of 18’9 1/4”.
Milwaukee will be back in action this weekend, heading to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Cyclone Classic Feb. 10-12.
