Monas and Clarridge Honored as Scholar All-Americans

Two Horizon League student-athletes were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon Scholar All-Americans by the Golf Coaches Association of America.  Cleveland State senior Kent Monas and Detroit senior Jeff Clarridge were honored with only 138 other Division I recipients.

Monas wrapped up his career by earning Horizon League Player of the Year honors this past season, leading the league with a 74.1 scoring average, the third best in a single season in CSU history. He fired a team-best round of 66 at the adidas Indiana Invitational in early April, while also posting six top-20 finishes and seven rounds of par or better.

Monas's efforts helped the Vikings capture the Horizon League Championship and a spot in the NCAA Regionals for the third time in his four year career.

The pre-engineering major ranks second all-time in CSU history with a 74.8 career scoring average in 115 career rounds.

Clarridge, who made the prestigious academic squad for the second straight year, enjoyed his best collegiate season as a senior, leading the Titans with a 75.2 stroke average while earning All-Horizon League accolade.

He was in the top 10 four times, taking runner-up at the PGA Village Invitational, third at the Titans Invitational and tying for third in the Bruce Fossum Invitational. He then earned his degree in Business Administration from Detroit in May, graduating with a 3.82 GPA.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
