Nate Flannery, who most recently was the media relations assistant for the Indianapolis Indians Triple-A baseball club, has been named Assistant Director of Communications at the Horizon League, Commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Thursday (Nov. 10).
Flannery will serve as the Horizon League's primary media relations contact for women's basketball, women's soccer, cross country, track and field, and softball.
During his tenure with the Indians from May 2004 to Sept. 2005, Flannery was the editor and designer for the team's 2005 media guide; wrote feature stories for team newsletters and game programs; and was responsible for daily web site updates and team press releases. He also organized player appearances and helped supervise press box operations on game days under the direction of Media Relations Manager Matt Segal.
Flannery also served as a high school sports reporter for ESPN 950 sports radio in Indianapolis from Sept.-Dec. 2004 and has been a part-time producer for the station again this fall.
"Nate will be a valuable addition to our staff," said LeCrone. "The diversity of his experience will enable him to contribute immediately as we continue to enhance our communications services for our nine member institutions."
A native of Valparaiso, Ind., Flannery earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from Indiana University in 2004.
Flannery, who will start his new position Nov. 15, replaces Taylor Payne, who was named Director of Media Relations for Indianapolis-based U.S. Synchronized Swimming in September.
