INDIANAPOLIS –Oakland senior catcher Erika Polidori (Brantford, Ontario, Canada) is the Horizon League softball Player of the Week, while Cleveland State sophomore Susan Knight (Milan, Ohio) is the Horizon League softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb. 3-9.
In the opening weekend of the 2014 season, Oakland traveled to Georgia to compete in the Georgia Southern Tournament. On Friday, Oakland defeated Northern Colorado 5-0 but fell to Georgia Southern 11-0. In rematches against both teams Saturday, Oakland was unable to collect victories in either game. The team finished out the weekend falling to No. 1 Tennessee, going 1-4 overall for the tournament.
Polidori led the Golden Grizzlies at the plate over the five-game stretch, recording zero strikeouts in the opening weekend. She batted .438, collected seven hits, six RBIs and a .500 on-base percentage. While hitting in the leadoff position for Oakland, Polidori had a .813 slugging percentage recording three doubles and a home run.
Cleveland State went 3-1 overall in its debut weekend in the second annual CSU Dome Tournament. The Vikings were undefeated Saturday, defeating Bucknell 1-0 and Bowling Green 5-3. The following day, Cleveland State collected a 9-0 victory against Canisius but fell to Robert Morris 1-0 in its only loss of the tournament.
Knight led the way for the Vikings totaling 14.0 innings of work while maintaining a perfect 0.00 ERA. Against Bucknell, the sophomore earned a complete game victory with no earned runs, four strikeouts and giving up only three hits during the game. For the tournament, Knight collected eight strikeouts and zero walks while holding her opponents to a .125 batting average against (BAA).
Oakland takes a short break from game action before traveling south for the ETSU Tournament Feb. 22-23. Cleveland State is back on the diamond Feb. 15-16 as the team travels to Charlotte, N.C. to take on Drexel, Charlotte and Seton Hall.
