Green Bay, Wis. - Day one of the 2005 Horizon League Softball Championships is in the books as the top-two seeds were upset in the second round of the winner's bracket on Thursday at a cold and blustery Ashwaubenon Sports Complex in Green Bay, Wis.
No. 3 Cleveland State and No. 5 Detroit each advanced into the semifinals of the top bracket as both teams won a pair of contest on the opening day.
The Vikings squeezed past No. 6 Butler, 2-1, in the first round before defeating No. 2 UW-Green Bay, 3-1, in the second. The Titans rolled past No. 4 Loyola, 4-1, before upsetting No. 1 UIC in Game 6, 7-4.
No. 3 Cleveland State and No. 5 Detroit face each other in the semifinals of the winner's bracket on Friday (May 13) at 2:00 p.m. CDT.
In the loser's bracket, No. 6 Butler and No. 7 Wright State face off at 9:00 a.m. with the winner facing No. 1 UIC at 11:30 a.m.
No. 4 Loyola and No. 8 Youngstown State also square off at 9:00 a.m. with the winner playing No. 2 UW-Green Bay at 11:30 a.m.
