CLEVELAND – After the second day of competition at the 2011 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships, the Phoenix lead the women while UIC has taken first-place in the men’s competition.
The men’s race remains close with UIC just 10.5 points ahead of the Vikings (297.5). UIC’s 400 Medley Relay team won the event with a meet record of 3:14.68. Evan Dunn also led the Flames winning the 200 Individual Medley (1:49.34). Cleveland State’s Mark de Swardt won his eighth straight championship event in the 500 Free (4:24.95). Hermanus Botha from Wright State also set a meet record in the 50 Free with a time of 20.07.
The Phoenix remains on top for the women’s competition with Alyssa Danielson winning the 50 Free, setting a meet record in a time of 22.90. Milwaukee is second with 273.5 points. Freshman Emily McClellan led the Panthers winning the 200 IM with a meet record time of 2:01.27. The Panthers 400 Medley Relay team also set a meet record, finishing in a time of 3:43.25.
Action begins again on Friday morning at 10:00 (EST) with prelims and finals following at 5:30pm.
