INDIANAPOLIS -- Six former Horizon League men's basketball players will be among the competitors at the NBA Summer League, scheduled to take place in Orlando, Fla., July 5-11, and Las Vegas, July 11-21.
Green Bay's Alec Brown, who became the fifth Horizon League alum taken in the NBA Draft since 2010, will suit up with the Phoenix Suns in the Las Vegas portion of the league. Brown, the 50th overall pick in this year's draft, was tabbed the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year in his senior season after recording a school-record 94 blocks. The senior's 309 career blocks matched the conference career mark. In his career, the 7-foot-1 center accumulated 1,678 points, 800 rebounds and 309 blocked shots.
A 2013 NBA Draft pick, Ray McCallum appeared in 45 games for the Sacramento Kings in his rookie year, averaging 6.2 points and 2.7 assists per game. McCallum, the 2013 Horizon League Player of the Year from Detroit, scored a career-best 27 points against the Los Angeles Lakers on April 2. McCallum will be leading the Kings' Summer League team in Las Vegas.
Making his Summer League debut will be former Oakland sharpshooter Travis Bader, who will play for the Philadelphia 76ers in the Orlando Summer League before suiting up with the Golden State Warriors in Las Vegas. Bader broke the all-time NCAA record with 504 3-pointers made, setting the record on Feb. 2. The sharp-shooter led the Horizon League and finished second in the country with a school record 147 3-pointers this season. He holds the NCAA record in 3-pointers made and 3-point field goals attempted (1,246). Bader was selected to the All-Horizon League First Team and tied the school record with 137 career games played. His 94.3 free-throw percent set a new single-season school record and ranks second in the country, while his 20.6 points per game ranks second in the league and 16th in the country.
Also debuting will be three-time First Team All-Horizon League standout Kendrick Perry, who will compete with the Orlando Magic. Perry became just the 13th player in Horizon League history to be named First Team All-Horizon League three times in his career and the first from Youngstown State. With 1,991 points in his career, Perry ranks first in the Penguins' Division I history and 10th in the Horizon League annals. For the second time in three years, Perry led the Horizon League in overall scoring with 20.9 points per game. He scored at least 30 points times this season, including a career-high 35 on two occasions.
Eli Holman and Nick Minnerath, who helped the Titans surge to the top of the conference in 2012, round out the League alumni in the Summer League. Holman, previously the 2012 Sixth Man of the Year in the Horizon League, will play for the Miami Heat summer league teams in both Orlando and Las Vegas. The 6-foot-11 center played for Usak Sportlif in the Turkish Basketball League in 2013-14, where he averaged 13.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
Minnerath, named 2013 First Team All-Horizon League, spent his first professional season with Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro CAB in the Spanish League and STB Le Havre in the French League. After averaging 6.0 ppg with Rio Natura, Minnerath moved to France, where he moved into the starting lineup and put up 11.9 ppg and 2.1 rpg.
