INDIANAPOLIS - Sixteen teams from Horizon League member schools have earned NCAA Academic Performance Program public recognition awards, the NCAA national office announced Thursday (April 24).
Loyola University Chicago and Valparaiso University led Horizon League schools with five teams each receiving awards. Honored from Valparaiso were men's cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field, and women's tennis and volleyball.
Butler University (women's golf and tennis) had two teams receive public recognition awards, while Cleveland State University (women's cross country), the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (women's tennis), the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (women's volleyball) and Wright State University (men's cross country) had one apiece.
The NCAA is honoring Division I sports teams with public recognition awards for their latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate scores. These teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top ten percent of all squads in their respective sports. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 965 to a perfect 1,000.
