INDIANAPOLIS - Milwaukee senior midfielder Helen Steinhauser (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Valparaiso senior goalkeeper Kyle Zobeck (Coralville, Iowa) have been selected as the Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Month for October.

In the women's poll, Steinhauser received 62.5-percent of the votes. She was named an NSCAA Scholar All-American in 2011 and carries a 3.774 GPA as a mathematics major.

Among her athletic accomplishments in October, Steinhauser scored game-winning goals in back-to-back contests, Oct. 3 at Valparaiso and Oct. 10 against Loyola. The Panthers went 4-1 during the month, including 4-0 in League play, and secured the Horizon League regular season title.

For her efforts, Steinhauser was named the Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Year.

On the men's side, Zobeck was a unanimous choice for Scholar-Athlete of the Month. A fifth-year mechanical engineering major, Zobeck carries a 3.969 GPA and was named one of 10 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.

Zobeck is a two-time Academic All-Horizon League honoree and in 2011 was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-American Third Team. He has been named a Tau Beta Pi Laureate, the highest distinction for a senior engineering student in the United States.

On the field, Zobeck led the Crusaders to a 4-1-3 record, including a 2-0-2 mark in Horizon League action, and gave up just six goals in eight games. He was named the League's Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22 and helped Valpo tie a school record with a six-game unbeaten streak.
