INDIANAPOLIS - Green Bay sophomore Paul Swanson and UIC sophomore Mariya Kovaleva have been named Horizon League Tennis Players of the Week for the period of March 15-21¬.
Swanson, a native of Cool Rapids, Minn., helped Green Bay go 2-0 in conference action last week. He went 2-0 at No. 1 singles against Valparaiso (6-4, 6-4) on Saturday and UIC (3-6, 7-5, 6-0) on Sunday. Swanson also teamed with Henning Jess to register doubles victories against Valpo (8-5) and UIC (8-1).
Kovaleva, a native of Almaty, Kazakhstan, went 4-0 on the weekend with two wins at No. 1 singles and two more at No. 1 doubles. She posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at Milwaukee on Saturday and 6-0, 6-1 win at Green Bay on Sunday. Kovaleva also teamed with Kristen McPhillips to register an 8-7 (5) win at Milwaukee and 8-6 triumph at Green Bay.
The Green Bay men travel to Cleveland State on Saturday. The UIC women head to Detroit on Sunday.
