MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Luke Wilkens
Cleveland State, Senior, Bloemfontein, South Africa
Luke Wilkens of Cleveland State has been selected the Horizon League Men'sSwimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Nov. 2.
Wilkens set a Phoenix Sports Center Pool record of 1:52.35 in the 200 butterfly and picked up a second win in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:42.57. The previous pool record of 1:52.40 was held by last season's Horizon League Swimmer of the Meet Zach Hansen.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kalyn Leveto
Youngstown State, Senior, Warren, Ohio
Kalyn Leveto of Youngstown State has been selected the Horizon League Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Nov. 2.
Leveto went 4-0 in diving events this week against Ohio and Clarion. Against Clarion on Sunday, she defeated reigning Division II National Champion Jamie Wolf in both diving events, winning the 1-meter with a six-dive score of 295.55 and the 3-meter board with an 11-dive tally of 57.05. Both of her dives against the Golden Eagles were season-best marks. On Friday against Ohio, Leveto posted a season-high score of 277.87 to win the 3-meter board by more than 31 points. She also won the 1-meter with a score of 243.75 against the Bobcats.
MEN'S OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Blake Booher
UIC, Sophomore, Barrington, Ill.
Booher put up a strong overall performance, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 21.34 while downing defending league 50 free champion Elvis Cirikovic in the process. The second-year sprint freestyler also helped the Flames take the 400-yard freestyle relay, swimming his 100 yards in the final leg in 46.81.
Jeff Scadden
UW-Green Bay, Senior, Sun Prairie, Wis.
Scadden did not compete last week, but he made an inspirational splash at the PSC pool last weekend. Scadden underwent emergency surgery Friday night for severe blood clotting and a kidney infection. He was in attendance for the noon Saturday dual meet with Horizon League foe Cleveland State in a show of strength and support for his Phoenix team. Scadden's prognosis is good, with a likely return to the pool before the end of the calendar year.
Michael Belting
UW-Milwaukee, Senior, Owantonna, Minn.
Belting had a perfect weekend in leading the Panthers to a 2-1 record over the weekend. On Friday, he won the 200 and 500 free events with times of 1:46.17 and 4:49.25, respectively. Trailing by two points, he came back to swim the the winning 400 free relay (3:14.18). Belting came back the next day and won both the 1000 (9:52.26) and 500 free (4:47.11) events to help UWM to a split against Oakland and Wayne State. He once again finished his night with a first-place showing in the 400 free relay (3:13.38).
Will Ehresman
Wright State, Sophomore, Lafayette, Ind.
Ehresman won four events over the weekend with two wins against Butler and two against UIC. He took first place in the 100 and 1000-yard freestyle with times of 48.48 and 9:46.32, respectively. Ehresman won the 500 and 1000 freestyle against UIC with times of 4:50.36 and 9:59.27 as the Raiders won both meets.
WOMEN'S OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Samantha Jones
Cleveland State, Senior, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa
Jones tallied a pair of victories at UW-Green Bay, swimming the 200 IM in 2:13.23 and the 200 backstroke in 2:08.90.
Colleen Dougherty
UIC, Freshman, Woodstock, Ill.
Dougherty won her second straight 50 free event, edging out teammate Jenny Gessford with a 25.36. The fast frosh also sped UIC to a win in the women's 400 free relay, ending the race a final leg time of 54.57.
Amy Christopherson
UW-Green Bay, Senior, Kiel, Wis.
Christopherson was a part of two Phoenix Sports Center pool records Saturday, helping the 400 medley relay team to a winning time of 3:59.78 and posting a 200 breaststroke time of 2:22.72.
Erin Blemberg
UW-Milwaukee, Junior, Appleton, Wis.
Blemberg won the one-meter diving at UWM's quad meet with Oakland, Wayne State and Akron. Her score of 281.40 fell just 8.25 points short of a school record, while setting a new personal best. She added a fourth-place finish in the three-meter event, scoring 227.15 points.
Catalina Martinez
Wright State, Freshman, Cali, Columbia
Martinez won three events over the two days against Butler and UIC on Friday and Saturday. Martinez won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.51 against Butler. Martinez then won the 500 and 1000 freestyle against UIC with times of 5:19.28 and 10:48.32 as the Raiders moved to 2-0.
