TENNIS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Phil Orno

Orno went 4-0 last week as the Vikings posted wins over Green Bay and Youngstown State. At No. 1 singles, he defeated Green Bay's Tim Prudlow (6-2, 6-4) and YSU's Scott Kathary (6-4, 6-4). Orno also paired with Ryan Hamning to take down the Phoenix duo of Prudlow and Mark Goldin (8-4) and the Penguin team of Kathary and Ryan Trapp (8-4). Orno now has won 15 consecutive singles matches.

Kristen McPhillips
UIC
Sophomore
Willoughby, Ohio



McPhillips went a perfect 6-0 in League play last week as the Flames defeated Detroit, Valparaiso and Wright State. At No. 3 singles, she defeated Annie Moore of Detroit (6-1, 6-3), Valpo's Molly Keifer (6-1, 6-0) and Wright State's Kenisha Webb (6-1, 6-1). McPhillips also teamed up with Lubica Nadasska at No. 1 doubles to beat each of their opponents' top doubles team.

Matt Clegg
Green Bay
Sophomore, Stevens Point, Wis.

Clegg had a solid showing for the Phoenix in four road contests last week, going 3-1 at No. 3 singles, with all three wins coming against Horizon League foes Youngstown State, Cleveland State and Wright State. He also posted a 2-2 mark with teammate Matt Keesey at No. 2 doubles, including a 2-1 mark in League play.

Sebastian Lystad
UIC
Sophomore, Oslo, Norway

Lystad led the Flames against IPFW with a win over his opponent at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3. He also teamed with Eric Fey to defeat the No. 2 doubles team 8-3. Against Villanova, Lystad picked up a victory at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.

Dan Brunette
Valparaiso
Senior, Carmel, Ind.

Brunette won three of his four matches last week, including both singles contests. Paired with Kyle Stump, Brunette started out with a 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles over Wright State, followed by a 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Raiders' Brad Krick at fifth singles. Brunette then moved up to fourth singles against Chicago State and defeated his opponent 6-3, 7-5.

Scott Kathary
Youngstown State
Senior, Dublin, Ohio

Kathary teamed with Ryan Trapp to pick up their eighth win at No. 1 doubles this season, defeating Green Bay's Tim Prudlow and Mark Goldin 8-7(6). Kathary was then the only Penguin to extend his singles match to three sets, but eventually fell to Prudlow at the No. 1 spot (3-6, 6-1, 6-4).

Michelle Hawes
Butler
Senior, Columbus, Ind.

Hawes won at both singles and doubles in the Bulldogs' 4-3 victory over Detroit. She teamed up with Tiffany McLoughlin for an 8-5 decision at No. 3 doubles before giving Butler its match-clinching point at No. 6 singles, rallying from a 2-6 deficit to score the victory (2-6, 6-4, 6-2).

Melissa Holzinger
Cleveland State
Freshman, Dallas, Texas

Holzinger won twice at No. 1 singles last week as the Vikings took on Green Bay and Milwaukee. She defeated Green Bay's Emily Lawent 6-4, 6-3 on Friday before downing Milwaukee's Kelly Drvaric 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 on Saturday. Holzinger also teamed with Jackie Tabb to win both of her matches at No. 2 doubles.

Erin Weldon
Detroit
Freshman, Kalamazoo, Mich.

Weldon was the lone Titan to win both of her singles matches last week against League foes UIC and Butler. Both of her victories came after three sets, as she defeated Amy Jellish of UIC (6-2, 1-6, 7-6(13)) and Tiffany McLoughlin of Butler (6-7(7), 6-4, 10-8).

Laura Lawson
Valparaiso
Freshman, Thorntown, Ind.

Lawson moved into the singles lineup and posted two victories at No. 6 singles last week. She defeated Wright State's Kelly Lybrook (6-0, 6-4) and Chicago State's Nia Randall while splitting a pair of doubles matches as part of the No. 3 duo.

Michelle Fuleky
Youngstown State
Senior, Pickerington, Ohio

Fuleky teamed with Hannah Patten at No. 3 doubles to earn the Penguins' only doubles win against Green Bay. Fuleky later defeated Green Bay's Callee Conda at No. 4 singles (2-6, 6-4, 5-3 retired). Fuleky and Patten also paired up to defeate Milwaukee's Martina Schnapp and Jenna Felsher, 9-7.
