INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Detroit Mercy sophomore Lesley Hanna, University of Illinois at Chicago junior Andy Wall, Loyola University Chicago senior Pam Staton and Youngstown State University junior Alisha Anthony have been named Horizon League Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the period of Jan. 19-25.
Hanna, a native of Exuma, Bahamas, receives the Men's Running Events honor after winning the 300-meter (34.41) on Saturday at the Don Wright Team Challenge in London, Ontario. He also ran a leg of Detroit's first-place 4x200 relay team (1:31.26) and second-place 4x400 relay squad (3:24.56). The 300 and 4x200 times were both school records.
Wall, a native of Peoria, Ill., picks up the Men's Field Events award after winning the triple jump (14.19 meters) on Saturday at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill. He also placed second in the high jump (1.93 meters) and sixth in the long jump (6.42 meters).
Staton, a native of Ingleside, Ill., receives the Women's Running Events honor after winning the 800-meter (2:17.26) on Saturday at the Carle/Health Alliance Invitational in Champaign, Ill.
Anthony, a native of Van Wert, Ohio, picks up the Women's Field Events award after winning the long jump (5.69 meters) and triple jump (12.02 meters) on Friday at the Robert Morris Six Way in Moon Township, Pa.
Hanna and Staton become two-time Track & Field Athletes of the Week this season. Hanna was previously recognized for his efforts on Jan. 22, while Staton earned her first award on Dec. 10.
