Detroit’s Adam Bedell and Oakland’s Nick Kristock were announced as candidates for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award in men’s soccer on Wednesday.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.

Bedell, the reigning Horizon League Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, led the conference with 11 goals and tied for the League-lead with five assists last season as he helped lead the Titans to the Horizon League regular season title. The Livonia, Mich., native has also had success off the field as the Biology major was a member of the Horizon League’s Fall and Spring Academic Honor Roll last year and also serves as one of UDM’s two Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) League reps.

Kristock played in 11 matches last season for the Golden Grizzlies, making one start and earned a spot on the Summit League’s All-Academic team. Last year, the Novi, Mich., native became the first student-athlete to win the University’s Human Relations Award, awarded by the Board of Trustees. The honor recognizes a student who has made a valuable social impact within the university community. Kristock was also named the Student Leader of the Year by the Center for Student Activities.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Men’s and Women’s College Cup championships in December.

Each of the 30 candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.ʉ۬
