CHICAGO (AP) - Cedrick Banks scored 23 points and Illinois-Chicago beat Cleveland State 84-65 on Tuesday night in the opening round of the Horizon League tournament.
Karl White had 12 points for the fifth-seeded Flames (15-13), while Armond Williams and Elliott Poole each had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Illinois-Chicago will play fourth-seeded Loyola, which beat Youngstown State 78-75, on Friday in the second round.
The Flames, who led the eighth-seeded Vikings (9-17) 45-33 at halftime, were 31-for-60 from the field, while Cleveland State was 21-of-62.
Amadou Koundoul led the Vikings with 15 points and five rebounds, while Frashon McGee added 13 points and six rebounds.
