CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team recently held its second annual UIC Tennis Alzheimer's Smash to help raise funds for Alzheimer's research. The clinic and donations brought in nearly $1,500, which will go to Dr. Mary Jo LaDu's Research Lab at UIC.
Dr. LaDu's lab studies the pathology of Alzheimer's disease. Her research team has been very productive in its endeavors, developing a transgenic mouse that carries a human gene known to increase risk of Alzheimer's 15-fold and may prove more useful in the development of candidate drugs to prevent or treat the disease.
Last year was the first time the Flames came together to help Alzheimer's research and they were able to raise close to $1,000 for Dr. LaDu and her team.
