INDIANAPOLIS – UIC sophomore Kyle Hauser and Milwaukee senior Kelly Lewers have been named the Horizon League’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month for August and September.
As a psychology major, Hauser carries a 3.77 GPA and helped the men’s cross country team earn a cumulative GPA of 3.23.
Hauser has found himself at the top of the pack for the UIC cross country team, leading the squad in multiple events so far this season. He collected two top-two finishes in the first three races of the year and garnered Horizon League Runner of the Week accolades on September 15th. The sophomore also posted a career best time in the 8K of 25:09 at the Illinois State University Invite.
A psychology and pre-law major, Lewers carries a 3.825 GPA as a member of the Panthers’ women’s soccer team. She was also named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll in the fall and spring of 2013-14.
Lewers plays a vital role on the women’s soccer team for Milwaukee, netting four goals, distributing five assists and tallying 13 points in a span of 10 games in which she made nine starts. The senior ended the month of September with a three-game point streak (one goal, three assists) and found the back of the net two times, including the game-winner, in a win against the College of Charleston.
The Milwaukee women’s soccer team closes out conference play this afternoon on the road at Detroit for a 3:00 p.m. ET kick-off. Hauser and the rest of the Flames’ squad will compete at the Horizon League Cross Country Championship at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday, November 1st.
