UIC's Ogunleye, Detroit's Koglin Named Athletes of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – UIC junior Seyi Ogunleye (Calumet City, Mich.) and Detroit senior Allyson Koglin (Port Hope, Mich.) have been named Horizon League Indoor Field Athletes of the Week for the week of January 28-February 3.

Ogunleye led the Flames on Saturday at the Carthage Invitational and accounted for 20 of the team’s 29 points. His long jump of 6.89m not only beat 23 competitors, it also marks the best Horizon League long jump of the season. The triple jump was much of the same, with Ogenleye’s jump of 14.56m nearly one full meter better than the second-place finisher at the event.

Competing at the Findlay Open, Koglin took fifth-place out of 29 competitors in the weight throw. Her mark of 15.81m ranks as the fifth best weight throw in the League this season. Koglin also took on 31 competitors in the shot put and placed tenth with a toss of 11.23m.

UIC and Detroit return to action this weekend at the Meyo Invitational and the YSU National Invite, respectively.

Other Top Athletes of the Week:
Alex Chollet, Milwaukee (Jr., Aurora, Ill.) - At the Jack Jennett Invitational, Chollet finished fourth in the shot put and seventh in the weight throw with marks of 15.09m and 17.18m, respectively.
Eric Lewis, Detroit (Sr., Eastpointe, Mich.) - Placed tenth with a weight throw of 16.85m in the Second Tier of the Elite Throws Competition at the Findlay Open. 
Connor Neu, Youngstown State (Fr., Brook Park, Ohio) - After finishing third in the weight throw at the Elite Throws Competition with a distance of 18.27m, Neu took first-place the next day with a mark of 19.53m at the SPIRE Midwest Open.
LaBreya Johnson, Milwaukee (Fr., Beloit, Wis.) - Finished ninth in the long jump (5.20m) at the Jack Jennett Invitational.
Sharon Mwale, UIC (Jr., Woodstock, Ill.) - Turned in a high jump of 1.55m at the Carthage Invitational.
Mackenzie Sturtz, Youngstown State (Fr., Marion, NY) - In the high jump at the SPIRE Midwest Open, Sturtz recorded her first collegiate victory (1.65m).
