INDIANAPOLIS – UIC junior Seyi Ogunleye (Calumet City, Ill.) and Valparaiso senior Sarah Drozdowski (Roselle, Ill.) have been named Horizon League Indoor Field Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 7-13.
Ogunleye finished in first-place at the Bob Eubanks Open in the triple jump. His jump of 13.94m was nearly one-half meter better than his nearest opponent.
Drozdowski finished in second-place out of 20 competitors in both the weight throw and the shot put at the Hillsdale Winter Opener. Her weight throw registered 17.07m, a mere .08 meters off of top honors. Her toss of 12.68m in the shot put ranks third on the Crusaders all-time chart.
UIC will send two teams to the Dick Pond-Lewis Invitational and the UWM Triangular on Jan. 17. Valparaiso also returns to action on Jan. 17 at the Grand Valley State Invitational.
Other Top Athletes of the Week:
Nick Girodat, Oakland (Fr., Ann Arbor, Mich.) - Turned in the league’s top long jump of the year (6.62m) at the Eastern Michigan Triangular.
Eric Lewis, Detroit (Sr., Eastpointe, Mich.) - Placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 16.47m at the Eastern Michigan Triangular.
Allyson Koglin, Detroit (Sr., Port Hope, Mich.) - Registered a first-place in the weight throw and a third-place in the shot put at the Eastern Michigan Triangular. Her winning weight throw registered 15.87m.
Chenera Lacy, Youngstown State (Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) - At the Doug Raymond Invitational, Lacy registered a high jump of 1.65m. The freshman has placed first in each of the Penguins’ two indoor meets.
Noelle Williams, UIC (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) - Placed 17th in the weight throw at the Bob Eubanks Open with a toss of 12.86m.
