Brown Deer, Wis. - The UW-Green Bay women and Wright State men extended their leads on Thursday in day two of the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships at the Schroeder YMCA.

 

On the women's side, the Phoenix currently leads with 291 points, while Wright State and UW-Milwaukee lurk behind with 278 and 276 points, respectively. UIC (202), Cleveland State (146), Youngstown State (124) and Butler (76) close out the remaining field.

 

After setting a new Horizon League record in the 50-yard freestyle (23.14) with her leg of the 200 freestyle relay on Wednesday, UW-Milwaukee's Lindsay Caldwell took first place in the open 50 freestyle with a time of 23.47, while UIC's Colleen Dougherty placed second with a time of 24.02. The Panthers also swam to a title in the 400 medley relay as Julie Olsen, Caldwell, Heather Sawatzki and Kristin Skiba finished with a time of 3:51.93.

 

In the 500 freestyle finals, Wright State grabbed the top-two spots as Tina Pandza and Brittiany Czoch finished 1-2 with times of 5:00.63 and 5:02.11, respectively.

 

The finals of the 200 individual medley saw the closest finish of the day, as Wright State's Jessica Weidert finished in a time of 2:08.17, edging out Cleveland State's Samantha Jones who finished in 2:08.70.

 

In the women's three-meter diving finals, UW-Milwaukee captured the first two spots as Erin Blemberg captured the crown with a score 480.60, while teammate Crystal Szymanksi finish with a 418.00.

 

On the men's side, the Raiders currently lead with 307 points, while Cleveland State sits in the second spot with 272 points. UIC (243), UW-Green Bay (221), UW-Milwaukee (193) and Butler (82) fill out the rest of the field after day two.

 

Wright State's Scott Lang won the finals of the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:28.04, while teammate Dejan Antolic placed second as he touched the wall in 4:32.10. In the 200 individual medley finals, the Raiders received another victor, as Alex Dolgov paced the field with a time of 1:50.42.

 

Cleveland State picked up a pair of victories on day two, as the 400 medley relay team of Pieter Pelser, Gabriel Linton, Luke Wilkens and Johan Norling captured the title with a time of 3:22.62. In the men's one-meter diving final, Thatcher Carr dominated the field as he dove to a victory with a score of 358.70.

 

UIC's Blake Booher swam to victory in the 50-yard freestyle final, as he led the field with a time of 20.53, narrowly defeating Wright State's Elvis Cirikovic and teammate LeRoy Stevens, who finished in 20.68 and 20.71, respectively.

 

The Horizon League Championships continue on Friday, with preliminary heats beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT, followed by the men's three-meter diving trials at 2:00 p.m. The women's one-meter diving trials will begin at 4:00 p.m., while the swimming finals will occur at 6:30 p.m.
