Milwau;kee, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team was ranked No. 22 in the nation when the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced its 2004-05 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll.
The Panthers posted a team grade a team grade point average of 3.305 for the 2004-05 school year to make the list for the third time in four seasons.Milwaukee was ranked No. 13 in 2002 (3.312) before rising to No. 4 in 2003 (3.429).
Milwaukee's ranking was out of 328 Division I schools, while just one other Horizon League school made the list in UW-Green Bay. The Phoenix were ranked No. 7 with a team GPA of 3.422.
UWM has also had academic success at the league level, where six players were named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll in June, including senior Kimberly Becker. Becker was also named to the five-player League All-Academic Team.
The Panthers open the 2005-06 season in the Preseason WNIT at Oklahoma Nov. 11. UWM returns three starters for the 2005-06 season, including all-league honorees in seniors Nichole Drummond and Molly O'Brien. Milwaukee went 14-14 last season and finished second or better in the Horizon League standings for the sixth-straight year. The complete 2005-06 schedule is expected to be finalized and released next week.
