PENDLETON, Ind. - Valparaiso University scored three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth to defeat Youngstown State University 10-2 in five innings Friday in the Horizon League Softball Championship at Legends Field in Pendleton, Ind.



With the win, the Crusaders (25-23) picked up their first League tournament victory after three losses since joining the conference for the 2008 season. Youngstown State was eliminated with its second loss.



Leading 4-1, Valpo went up 7-1 in the fourth on a solo home run by Karen Korb and a two-run roundtripper by Ashley Wolter.



One inning later, Jill Jacobson doubled home Jamie Weinburger, and Aubrey Sundling scored on an illegal pitch. Following two intentional walks to load the bases with one out, Jacobson beat the throw home on Wolter's grounder to second to give the Crusaders the run-rule victory.



Alex Lagesse (5-5) scattered eight hits with two strikeouts to earn the win.



Cheryl Cale (7-24) suffered the loss after giving up eight hits and seven earned runs in 3 2/3 innings.



Valpo will play fourth-seeded Loyola University Chicago today at 4 p.m. ET.
