BUTLER BULLDOGS (14-7 overall, 7-3 HL)
Senior Melanie Thornton ranks in the Horizon League's top five for blocked shots (2nd, 1.8), scoring (2nd, 15.3), steals (3rd, 2.2) and rebounding (5th, 7.6).Melanie Thornton has reached the 10-point plateau in 15 straight contests and 17 of 18 overall this season.Head Coach Beth Couture, who owns a 119-110 record in her eighth year at Butler, needs just six more victories to become the school's all-time leader.The Bulldogs are holding opponents to 54.4 points in 14 games won this season, but are allowing 77.9 points in seven losses.
CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (11-11 overall, 6-5 HL)
Senior Kailey Klein became Cleveland State's all-time leading scorer with a season-best 31 points on Saturday against Loyola. She now has 1,876 career points.Kailey Klein needs just 124 points to become the third player in Horizon League history to score 2,000 career points.CSU posted its fourth straight win -- a 62-51 decision -- over UIC on Thursday.Junior Shawnita Garland scored all 18 of her points against UIC in the second half.The Vikings grabbed 87 rebounds in their two games last week to remain the top rebounding team in the conference (37.9).
DETROIT TITANS (11-11 overall, 9-2 HL)
Detroit finds itself atop the Horizon League standings 11 games into the conference season for the first time since 1997. The Titans ended up advancing to the 1997 NCAA Tournament after claiming the circuit's regular-season and tournament titles.The Titans have won eight consecutive home games and 10 of their last 12 overall.Detroit registered a 71-55 upset of #23/20 Green Bay on Thursday to take over sole possession of first place in the loop. It was UDM's first win over the Phoenix since Jan. 24, 2004.The 16-point spread matched Detroit's largest win over Green Bay in school history.Thursday's contest was Detroit's fourth meeting against a nationally-ranked foe this season and its first win over a top 25 opponent since Nov. 22, 2008.Sophomore Yar Shayok averaged 15.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in conference wins over Green Bay and Milwaukee last week.Senior Brigid Mulroy ranks among the NCAA leaders in free-throw percentage (2nd, .917), three-point accuracy (3rd, .520) and threes made per game (17th, 2.9).
GREEN BAY PHOENIX (19-3 overall, 8-3 HL)
Green Bay has won 30 consecutive regular-season Horizon League home games.Green Bay ranks among the NCAA leaders in assists (3rd, 18.9), turnover margin (4th, 7.27), assist-to-turnover ratio (5th, 1.19), free-throw percentage (7th, .776) and steals (9th, 12.0).The Phoenix opened up a 35-16 halftime advantage in Saturday's 74-50 victory at Wright State behind .652 shooting (15-for-23) in the first stanza.Green Bay handed out a season-high 26 assists in the win over Wright State.Junior Kayla Tetschlag ranks in the League's top five for scoring (4th, 15.0), field-goal percentage (4th, .537) and free-throw accuracy (4th, .837).
LOYOLA RAMBLERS (12-10 overall, 6-5 HL)
Loyola managed its first Horizon League weekend road sweep since Jan. 2-4, 2003, with victories over Youngstown State on Thursday (63-59) and Cleveland State on Saturday (74-64).Senior Elyse VanBogaert became the 20th member of Loyola's 1,000-point club last week and the 10th player to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career.Senior Maggie McCloskey went 7-for-7 from the foul line on Saturday and is 16-for-16 from the charity stripe this season.Maggie McCloskey ranks 14th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.33).Loyola is 5-0 this season against conference foes from the state of Ohio.LU's 12 wins are its most since the 2002-03 season.
MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (9-13 overall, 4-7 HL)
Sandy Botham coached her 400th game at Milwaukee over the weekend.Saturday's game between Milwaukee and Detroit featured 14 ties and 16 lead changes. The first meeting on Jan. 7 included 13 ties and 16 lead changes.Junior Lindsay Laur posted her seventh double-double of the campaign with 17 points and a career-high-tying 14 rebounds at Detroit. Laur also attempted 22 shots, which ties for the fourth-most on the school's single-game chart.
UIC FLAMES (10-12 overall, 7-4 HL)
Freshman Taylor Foulks became the fourth UIC player to break the 20-point plateau this season in Saturday's 72-53 win at Youngstown State.UIC used a 50-8 advantage in the paint to record the 19-point victory over YSU.UIC improved to 13-2 against the Penguins under Head Coach Lisa Ryckbosch.The Flames are shooting .509 (83-for-163) in their last three wins over Green Bay, Loyola and Youngstown State.
VALPARAISO CRUSADERS (6-15 overall, 3-7 HL)
Freshman Raegan Moore has scored 32 points in her last two games (16.0 ppg) after collecting just 32 points in her previous seven contests (4.6 ppg).Senior Lauren Kenney has scored 79 points in her last five affairs (15.8 ppg) after recording just 30 points in her previous five tilts (6.0 ppg).Freshman Laura Richards tallied a career-high four steals on Saturday vs. Butler.
WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS (8-13 overall, 4-7 HL)
Wright State has won three of its past four tilts after dropping nine of its previous 10.Senior Erica Richardson became the fourth Horizon League player to go 10-for-10 from the free-throw line this season when she accomplished the feat on Saturday against Green Bay. She also managed a season-best 18 points vs. the Phoenix.Junior LaShawna Thomas recorded the eighth 20-point performance of her career in Thursday's 64-46 win over Milwaukee.Wright State swept UWM for the first time since 1996 with the victory.
YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (0-22 overall, 0-11 HL)
Sophomore Macey Nortey, who has scored 178 points this season, has already surpassed her 2008-09 total. She is the fourth of five returnees to surpass last year's sum.Freshman Brandi Brown, who has recorded 244 rebounds in 2009-10, broke Youngstown State's single-season freshman record. She ranks ninth in the country with 11.1 boards per outing.YSU has out-rebounded three straight opponents for the first time this year. The Penguins have won the battle of the boards five times in 11 League games after doing it just once in 11 non-conference affairs.
