HORIZON LEAGUE TEAM NOTES
BUTLER BULLDOGS (18-7 overall, 11-3 HL)
Butler has won nine of 10 games after changing its line-up in mid-January. The Bulldogs have also gone 8-1 at Hinkle Fieldhouse this season.Butler has come from behind to win each of its last three games. The Bulldogs trailed in the second half against Cleveland State, Detroit and Wright State.Head Coach Beth Couture, who owns a 123-110 record in her eighth year at Butler, needs just two more victories to become the school's all-time leader.Senior Melanie Thornton ranks in the Horizon League's top five for blocked shots (2nd, 1.7), scoring (2nd, 15.1), rebounding (4th, 8.4) and steals (5th, 2.1). She has also reached the 10-point mark in 18 of her last 19 games.
CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (13-12 overall, 8-6 HL)
Senior Kailey Klein needs just 64 points to become the third player in Horizon League history to score 2,000 in a career.Kailey Klein and fellow senior Jessica Roque have played in 119 career games, the second most all-time in CSU history and one shy of tying the record.Senior Stephaine Crosley is shooting .597 (43-for-72) from the field in conference tilts this season.Cleveland State has now won seven straight in the series with Youngstown State.The Vikings committed a season-low 10 miscues in Saturday's 68-38 win over YSU.
DETROIT TITANS (14-12 overall, 12-3 HL)
Detroit finds itself atop the Horizon League standings 15 games into the conference season for the first time since 1997. The Titans ended up advancing to the 1997 NCAA Tournament after claiming the circuit's regular-season and tournament titles.Detroit has won 13 of its last 16 overall and nine of its last 10 at Calihan Hall.Senior Brigid Mulroy leads the nation in three-point percentage (.528) after knocking down 8-of-10 from long distance last week.Brigid Mulroy drilled a career-best eight field goals en route to a game-high 22 points on Thursday against Butler.Sophomore Jalesa Jones tied a career high with 17 points vs. Butler.Sophomore Yar Shayok recorded 13 rebounds in both games last week.
GREEN BAY PHOENIX (22-3 overall, 11-3 HL)
Green Bay has won 24 straight home games and 36 consecutive regular-season Horizon League home affairs.The Phoenix has now tallied at least 20 wins in each of the past 11 campaigns.Green Bay ranks among the NCAA leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio (4th, 1.19), assists (5th, 18.6), turnover margin (6th, 7.28), free-throw accuracy (8th, .768), steals (9th, 11.8) and field-goal percentage (10th, .464).Green Bay held all UIC players to eight points or less in Thursday's 64-45 victory.The Phoenix defense forced 46 turnovers en route to 57 points off miscues in victories over UIC and Loyola last week.
LOYOLA RAMBLERS (13-13 overall, 7-8 HL)
Senior Maggie McCloskey's 311 career three-pointers made are second among active players and good for 18th on the NCAA's all-time list.Maggie McCloskey also moved into ninth on Loyola's career scoring list last week with 15 points in a pair of Horizon League tilts.Loyola's 13 wins are its most in a season since going 15-14 in 2001-02.
MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (10-15 overall, 5-9 HL)
Senior Jodie McClain reached 300 assists in her career on Saturday against UIC.Opponents have shot 50 percent or better in each of Milwaukee's last five setbacks.Those are the only five games UWM has allowed a team to shoot 50 percent.The Panthers have drained at least one three-pointer in 234 consecutive affairs.UWM improved its all-time record to 32-9 against Loyola in Thursday's 60-51 victory.
UIC FLAMES (12-14 overall, 9-6 HL)
Sophomore Jasmine Bailey leads the Horizon League in field-goal percentage (.572) and is on pace to set UIC's single-season record in that category.Freshman Lauren Gatto scored UIC's first eight points en route to a career-high 16 in Saturday's 72-61 win over Milwaukee.UIC enjoyed its second-best shooting performance of 2009-10 vs. Milwaukee -- 29-for-53 (.547).The Flames have collected six conference road wins this season -- the most in Head Coach Lisa Ryckbosch's eight years at the helm.
VALPARAISO CRUSADERS (7-18 overall, 4-10 HL)
Senior Whitney Farris posted her first collegiate double-double with a career-high 22 points and 10 rebounds on Thursday at Wright State.Valparaiso forced a season-high 27 turnovers at Wright State, which led to 13 steals. The Crusaders cut a 17-point deficit down to one, but could not get over the hump in a 54-51 loss.Valparaiso's bench has scored 20 or more points in nine of its last 11 games.
WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS (9-16 overall, 5-10 HL)
Senior Kanisha Ward tallied a career-best Horizon League point total (16) in Thursday's 54-51 victory over Valparaiso. Last week, she also became just one of just seven players in Wright State history to top 100 assists in a campaign.Sophomore Maria Bennett has connected from three-point range in 33 straight games and now has 88 trifectas in her career.Junior LaShawna Thomas is just 42 points from reaching 1,000 points in her career. Thomas is on pace to eclipse that plateau with the Raiders guaranteed at least four more games this season.
YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (0-25 overall, 0-14 HL)
Freshman Brandi Brown is averaging 10.8 rebounds per game this season and 11.5 boards in Horizon League contests. Both figures are best in the conference.Brandi Brown has scored 288 points, which is the most by all League freshmen. It is also the fourth most by a freshman in Youngstown State history.Sophomore Kenya Middlebrooks increased her team-best free-throw percentage in conference tilts to .864 (38-for-44) last week.
