Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Sarah Teegarden
UW-Milwaukee
Freshman, Midfielder
Batavia, Ill.

Teegarden scored three goals on her only three shots to lead the Panthers to a 2-0 weekend that extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches (6-0-1). She netted the game-winner by heading home a corner kick in the 82nd minute Sunday at Detroit as UWM clinched at least a share of its sixth-straight Horizon League regular-season title. On Friday, she headed in a pair of corner kicks in Milwaukee's 7-0 win at home over Youngstown State.

Jenny Southard, Butler
Freshman, Forward, Noblesville, Ind.
Southard scored the game-winner in Sunday's Horizon League win at Loyola. Southard's third goal of the season came in the fourth minute of the match and proved to be the only scoring in the 1-0 contest.

Kathy Banjavcic, Detroit
Senior, Midfielder/Forward, Windsor, Ontario
Banjavcic scored a goal and added the assist on the game winner in the Titans' 2-1 win at Loyola on Friday for a three-point week.

Stephanie Gross, UW-Green Bay
Junior, Forward, Fond du Lac, Wis.
Gross continued her high-powered attack, as the junior forward posted back-to-back game-winners in UW-Green Bay's 2-0 weekend. Against Butler, Gross' header off a corner kick gave the Phoenix just its third ever victory over the Bulldogs in the 1-0 shutout, which tied the team record for Horizon League wins in a season. Then, in non-conference action Sunday at IPFW, Gross' head again was the key, as she nodded home the game-winner midway through the second half. Gross added an assist in the win to give her 20 points on the year.

Amy Miller
Freshman, Midfield, Springfield, Ohio
Miller picked a perfect time to net her first collegiate goal, netting the game winning tally in the second half against Morehead State. Miller netted the tally in the 82nd minute from ten yards out to give the Raiders the win.

Jenna Fink
Freshman, Defender, Medina, Ohio
Fink scored YSU's only point in the weekend of soccer. This is her first goal of the season. YSU will have another Horizon League game on the road this weekend as they travel to Green Bay.

UW-Milwaukee Panthers
(8-4-3 overall, 5-0-1 Horizon League)
The Panthers clinched at least a share of their sixth straight Horizon League regular-season title with a 2-1 victory Sunday at Detroit. A UWM victory over Loyola Friday in Milwaukee would give the Panthers the outright crown. With the win over the Titans, UWM pushed its unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1).

UWM's seven goals Friday was its highest output since Nov. 2, 1997 in an 8-1 win over Loyola. It was also its largest shutout victory since a 16-0 rout of Western Illinois Sept. 5, 1997.

In addition to netting a regular season league title, Sunday's victory at Detroit pulled head coach Michael Moynihan within one win of 100 for his career. Moynihan entered his ninth season at the helm of the Panther soccer program with 91 career wins and now has 99 after a pair of victories last weekend.

UW-Green Bay Phoenix
(8-6-1 overall, 4-2-0 Horizon League)
Sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Wikgren had a solid week, extending her consecutive shutout minutes streak to 368:54 with back-to-back shutouts against Butler and IPFW. Wikgren now owns a 1.10 GAA this season with four shutouts, tying her for third in career shutouts with seven.

UW-Green Bay's four straight shutouts is tied for second best in team history and is the most since five straight during the 1993 season.

PThe Phoenix hosts its final two regular season games this week, starting with instate rival Wisconsin Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. Senior Day is slated for UW-Green Bay's Horizon League finale against Youngstown State Sunday, Oct. 23 at noon. The Phoenix is 15-2-0 in Senior Day contests.

Detroit Titans
6-4-4 overall, 3-1-1 Horizon League)
It is more than likely going to be a one goal game when UWM and the Titans lace it up and take to the pitch as the last six contests including Sunday's 2-1 Milwaukee win in Detroit have been decided by a single goal. Milwaukee has led in the regular season series, winning all four, but in the league tournament the Titans have posted back-to-back 1-0 wins the last two seasons.

Junior All-America and Horizon League Player of the Year candidate Mary Parker added to her point total Friday with an assist on the game's opening goal as well as scoring the game winner herself late in the second half to give Detroit a 2-1 win at Loyola.

Freshman goalie Jessica Gasior made her collegiate debut on Friday at Loyola. The Hamtramck, Mich., native was pressed into action after starting netminder Katie Fortenberry had to be removed from the game due to a collision with a Rambler player.

Butler Bulldogs
(6-7-2 overall, 2-3-0 Horizon League)
Sophomore Kirby Zwickel posted the first shutout of her Butler career with the team's 1-0 win at Loyola Sunday.

Butler has experienced an amazing amount of injuries this season. Butler players have combined to miss a total of 71 matches due to injury and have four players that are lost for the year with knee injuries. Several others are out indefinitely and could possibly miss the remainder of the year.

Butler's final escape from Horizon League action comes Tuesday, when the team hosts cross-town rival IUPUI. Butler's three seniors will be honored prior to Sunday's home finale against Detroit.

Wright State Raiders
(8-4-3 overall, 1-1-2 Horizon League)
The Green and Gold finish their ten-game road trip with 5-2-3 record. The Raiders monster road trip lasted 30 days, traveled through six states, played in three times zones and lasted 27 halves, almost three full games more than expected.

Junior Goalie Steph Comisar lowered her GAA this weekend on the Raiders last trip outside of the Horizon League. Comisar shutout Morehead State to start the week and then picked up a 2-1 victory at IPFW. Her GAA stands at 0.89, just above her 2004 total of 0.92, her 14 goals in 15 games, combines with five shut outs.

The Raiders have put together some impressive streaks this season, starting with winning seven of nine one goal games. The Raiders are unbeaten in overtime, holding a 1-0-3 mark, held a five game unbeaten streak between Sept. 18 and Oct. 2 and are currently are riding a three game unbeaten streak.

Loyola Ramblers
(5-7-1 overall, 1-3-0 Horizon League)
Senior midfielder/defender Jamie Wasielewski scored her first goal in almost a year after scoring the match-tying goal against Detroit on Oct. 14.

The Ramblers open a three-match road trip this week with matches at Horizon League-leading UW-Milwaukee (Oct. 21) and Northwestern (Oct. 23).

Junior forward Mary Dale snapped a scoreless streak that reached four matches after tallying an assist against UDM.

Youngstown State Penguins
(1-15-0 overall, 1-3-0 Horizon League)
Leading scorer Brittny Humphrey has been efficient in her shots this season, scoring three goals on 15 shots, including netting her trio of goals in only five shots on goal.

The Penguins play the third game in a four-game road trip this week when they meet UW-Green Bay this Friday. YSU then plays at Detroit Oct. 28 before hosting regional rival Cleveland State Oct. 30 in the final Horizon League regular season game.

Cleveland State Vikings
(0-15-0 overall, 0-4-0 Horizon League)
An 11-save performance by Erin Withrow against Southern Utah on Saturday has allowed the freshman to become the second goalie in school history to record 100 saves in a season. Withrow, who has an even 100 saves in 15 matches this year, had her fifth double-figure save effort of the year against the Thunderbirds.
