Wright State 61, Butler 55
DAYTON-Wright State outscored Butler 15-2 over the final 6 1/2 minutes to pull out a 61-55 win over the Bulldogs Monday night.
Butler led the entire half until a DaShaun Wood three-pointer beat the horn to tie the game at 25 at the break. The contest then seesawed back and forth for the initial 12 minutes of the second half until a Brandon Polk jumper and a three by Avery Sheets put the Bulldogs up 53-46 with 6:29 left.
Wright State, however, started its comeback with six straight points, four from Zach Williams and after Brandon Crone broke the string with two foul shots at the 2:07 mark, a three-point play by Williams tied the game with 1:36 left.
Williams struck again with a short jumper in the lane with 45 seconds to go to give the Raiders the lead for good and Zakee Boyd iced it with four foul shots down the stretch.
Williams paced Wright State (11-12, 6-6 Horizon League) with 21 points, 13 in the second half and nine in the final 3:15, while Wood added 15 and Boyd 10.
Polk led all scorers with 22 points for Butler (9-12, 4-7 Horizon) while Crone had 14 and Sheets nine.
