INDIANAPOLIS --- Wright State University sophomore Louie Haney has been named the Horizon League Softball Player of the Week, while University of Detroit Mercy freshman Kara Spinelli has earned Pitcher-of-the-Week accolades for the week ending March 1, the League office announced Tuesday (March 3).

Haney batted 6-for-16 (.375) with five runs and two runs-batted-in in five games at the Eller Media Stadium Tournament in Las Vegas., Nev., last week. She scored twice in an 8-7 victory over Loyola Marymount University in 11 innings Friday and went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI in a loss to Florida Atlantic University on Saturday. On the mound, she picked up a complete-game win in her first career start against LMU, allowing one run on five hits with a strikeout.

Spinelli earned her first career victory and led Detroit to its first win of the season with a 5-0 shutout over the College of the Holy Cross Sunday at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla. She tossed a complete-game, five-hitter with two strikeouts for the Titans.
Comprised of 10 public and private institutions of higher learning, the Horizon League is an NCAA Division I athletics conference that sponsors 19 intercollegiate championships and is headquartered in Indianapolis. The League and its member institutions aspire to teach young people, through athletic competition, the value of learning, service to others and personal responsibility.
Horizon League teams have enjoyed national success in a variety of sports in recent years, most notably in men's basketball, in which its teams have advanced to the Regional semi-finals of the NCAA Championship three times in the past six seasons.
