INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State freshman Sean Murphy and Valparaiso sophomore Dalton Lundeen have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of Mar. 3-9.
Murphy hit .583 with multi-hit games in three of WSU’s four games to earn Batter of the Week honors. He was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in the Raiders win against Dayton. In a victory over Bradley, Murphy was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, RBI and two runs scored. He finished up the weekend 2-for-2 with two RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base in the win over Dayton.
Lundeen posted a 1-1 record in 11 innings of work to earn Pitcher of the Week accolades. In just his second start back following a case of mononucleosis, Lundeen tossed a shutout against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The lefty posted 7.0 innings of scoreless ball and surrendered four hits. He struck out three batters. Earlier in the week, in his first start of the year against 10th-ranked Texas, Lundeen yielded two earned runs in four innings of work. He has yet to allow an extra base hit this season.
Other Horizon League top performers (Mar. 3-9)
Trent Drumheller, Oakland (Jr., OF) – Drumheller tallied a .667 on-base percentage and led the team with a .444 batting average in Oakland’s four-game series at Lipscomb. He finished the series with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Joey Hoelzel, Wright State (Sr., RHP) - Hoelzel pitched a complete game in WSU’s 8-4 win over Dayton on Friday. He struck out 12 and walked none, while allowing six hits and four runs (three earned). Dayton batters hit .188 against him.
Tim Koons, Oakland (Sr., RHP) – Koons fanned eight batters in seven innings of last work and was in-line for the win when he exited. He held Lipscomb batters to three hits and a .150 batting average.
Karch Kowalczyk, Valparaiso (Sr., 1B) - Kowalczyk hit two home runs for Valpo last week and finished the week with four runs scored and four runs driven in. He compiled a 1.089 OPS last week.
Phil Lipari, Youngstown State (Sr., IF) – Lipari batted .417 (5-of-12) and had a hit in three of YSU’s four games last week. He went 3-for-5 with a run scored and a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th versus Eastern Michigan. He tripled and scored in the Penguins first game against Cincinnati.
Cody Peterson, Milwaukee (Jr., RHP) - Peterson improved to 2-0 with a solid effort against Akron. He pitched 6.2 innings to get the victory, allowing just two earned runs and adding three strikeouts.
Brendon Shoemake, Youngstown State (Jr., RHP) – Shoemake went 6.2 innings, allowing just four hits and one run. The only run he allowed was on a two-out double in the seventh inning in YSU’s 1-0 loss to Cincinnati.
Ryan Solberg, Milwaukee (Sr., 1B/OF) - Solberg paced the UWM offense on the weekend trip to Tennessee, batting an impressive .467 (7-for-15) in 4 games, scoring a pair of runs. He had 3 doubles and a .556 on-base percentage.
