Indianapolis - Wright State freshman Sara Palermo has been named Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement Monday afternoon.
Palermo, a London, Ontario native, scored five points in leading Wright State to a pair of victories last weekend. She recorded her first career multi-goal match in a 3-1 win over Kent State on Friday, Aug. 29, tallying the match-tying goal in the 14th minute and scoring the final goal of the match.
Palermo then assisted on the match-winning goal against IPFW in the tenth minute for first career assist. For the week, she had six shots, including five on goal.
Palermo now has seven total points on three goals and an assist this season. She is tied for the team lead in goals with teammate Jess Rooma.
She becomes the second newcomer in as many weeks to capture the weekly honor, as Milwaukee's Sarah Hagen was named player of the week on Monday, Aug. 25.
Palermo and the Raiders play just once this week, traveling to Eastern Illinois for a 6 p.m. contest Friday, Sept. 5.
