INDIANAPOLIS – Wright State senior Matt Vest and UIC senior Jacki Fletcher have been named the Horizon League’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month for February.
Vest holds a 4.0 grade point average while earning a MBA in graduate school. He has been honored on the Dean’s list as well as the Horizon League Honor Roll during his time at Wright State.
Vest led the Raiders to the Championship game of the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship while averaging 8.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in February. From the field, he shot 46 percent overall, including 10-for-19 from the three-point range. In his standout game against Detroit, Vest scored 16 points with three three-pointers. He also had impressive performances versus Green Bay and Oakland scoring eight points in each contest.
Fletcher carries a 4.0 grade point average as a kinesiology major at UIC. She is enrolled in the Honors College and is a two-time recipient of the UIC Female Student-Athlete of the Year award. In addition, she has been a member of the Horizon League Honor Roll each eligible semester and an Academic All-League member.
In the month of February, she started all of the Flames’ 13 softball games at second base. She led UIC at the plate with a .514 batting average, going 19-for-37 in her at bats. Fletcher had seven multi-hit games and collected at least one hit in 11 of the 13 contests. In addition, she produced a team-best slugging percentage of .568 and on-base percentage of .550.
The Wright State men’s basketball team concluded its season at the postseason CollegeInsiders.com (CIT) tournament after finishing runner-up at the Horizon League Championships. UIC began conference play this past weekend against Valparaiso, splitting the double-header with the Crusaders.
