YARMOUTH, Mass. -- Wright State junior catcher Sean Murphy (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville) has been selected to the Cape Cod League All-Star Game, the league announced on Saturday.
The annual midsummer classic is slated for next Saturday, July 25, at Clem Spillane Field in Wareham, Mass. The league’s 10 managers were responsible for choosing representatives for both the East and West.
Murphy, playing for the Orleans Cardinals, was chosen as the backup catcher for the East roster. In 24 games with Orleans, Murphy is hitting .205 in the pitching-dominated, premire collegiate wood bat summer league. At 25-9, Orleans leads the five-team East Division of the Cape Cod League.
Through 78 at bats, Murphy is slugging .378, clubbing three home runs and driving in seven.
Murphy, a two-time First Team All-Horizon League pick behind the plate, helped lead Wright State to the Champaign Regional final in 2015 as the Raiders fell to nationally-seeded Illinois. Wright State finished the year with votes in both the USA Today Coaches (four votes, No. 39) and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association polls.
The catcher hit .329 on the year with four homers and 36 RBI. An economics major, Murphy carries a 3.71 GPA through his sophomore year, earning a place on the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and Academic All-League team.
