Catcher Sean Murphy of the Wright State baseball team has been selected as a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American as announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Murphy was the Horizon League Freshman of the Year and a Second Team All-League honoree as he hit .301 with a team-leading four home runs and 35 RBI, good for second on the squad, while throwing out 18 would-be base stealers.  He tied for second in the league in triples (3), tied for third in runs scored (39), was fourth in total bases (91), tied for fifth in hits (62), was sixth in RBI (35), tied for seventh in home runs (4), was eighth in slugging percentage (.442) and 10th in doubles (11).

The Horizon League Batter of the Week on March 9 and May 4, Murphy tied for third in triples (4), home runs (4) and stolen bases (8) during league play, was third in total bases (56), fourth in hits (39), tied for fifth in runs scored (24), fifth in slugging percentage (.479), tied for eighth in walks (15), tied for ninth in batting average (.333) and was 10th in on-base percentage (.426).

"This is a great accomplishment and I am really proud of Sean," said WSU head coach Greg Lovelady.  "He has an unbelievable work ethic and uncanny ability to process information and coaching.  Because of this, I have seen him make unbelievable gains and improvements from high school to now and I am even more excited to see what the future holds for him.  He was a big part of our team and a huge reason for our success this year."

Murphy was one of five catchers selected to the Freshman All-American Team, joining Zack Collins of Miami (FL), Jarrett Rindfleisch of Ball State, Tyler Lawrence of Murray State and Aaron Barnett of Pepperdine.
