INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State senior second baseman Michael Timm (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) has been named the Horizon League Batter of the Week, while Valparaiso left-hander Dalton Lundeen (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) is the League’s Pitcher of the Week, for the week of April 27-May 3. The accolade is the first of the season for both players.
Wright State (32-13, 16-7 Horizon) moved back atop the Horizon League standings by a half-game after taking two games from UIC in its weekend series. Valparaiso (18-24, 13-10 Horizon) sits in third place in the League after going 2-3 last week.
Batting cleanup, Timm posted a RBI in all three games of the series versus UIC, going 6-for-12 on the weekend with a 1.205 OPS.
The senior started the series with a 1-for-3 effort before going 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs, a run and a double in Saturday’s series-leveling win. In Sunday’s rubber game, Timm was 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Timm is one of five Raiders hitting over .300, posting a .309 mark to go along with a homer and 29 RBIs.
Lundeen, the 2014 Horizon League Pitcher of the Year, dominated in his Friday start versus Milwaukee. The left-hander tossed his first career 9-inning shutout, striking out five and scattering just three hits to a potent Panther offense.
Lundeen increased his League-leading strikeout total to 76 in 70.1 innings pitched while improving to 4-1 at home this season.
Wright State will head to Milwaukee for its League series this weekend, running May 8-10 at Henry Aaron Field, while Valparaiso will play four games at Emory Bauer Field, beginning with a non-conference matchup with Western Michigan on Tuesday, May 5. The Crusaders will host Youngstown State in their League series this weekend.
