Youngstown, Ohio - The Youngstown State University Intercollegiate Athletics Department's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee rallied around the university's efforts to support the 1.5 million children who have been devastated by the Dec. 26 Tsunami disaster, the department announced.
"When we heard about the Tsunami campaign, we thought it was a great opportunity for us to collectively help those in need," President of SAAC Abby Ettenhofer said. "As student-athletes, we have so much going for us and none of us can even begin to imagine what overwhelming devastation those children will have to overcome."
The SAAC generated $233 from athletes, coaches, and staff to assist in the relief efforts. The SAAC is comprised of student-athletes from all 18 intercollegiate sports who serve as representatives for all teams and assist the athletic administration in policy-making, as well as work on community outreach projects.
In addition to the Tsunami Relief Campaign, the SAAC sponsored a food drive for Gleaner's Food Bank last fall and will be working with Habitat for Humanity later this month.
