ANN ARBOR, MICH. – Youngstown State won its fourth consecutive championship taking down Wright State 4-2 in a repeat of last year’s final.
Wright State came out and took the doubles point with the duo of Karoline Haller and Linsey Verstrepen cruising to 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. The Raiders stormed back from a 2-5 deficit to take the tie break 7-5.
The Penguins bounced back in singles play with Cassandra Moraleja earning the 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. 2016 Player of the Year Dominika Lackova notched a straight set victory at the top singles spot. Noelly Nsimba followed up on yesterday’s straight set victory with 6-4, 6-3 win to put Youngstown State back in front 3-1 in the match.
The Raiders’ Elaine Cloern put another Wright State point on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 straight set win. Youngstown State proved to be too much as Imaan Hassim closed the book on the match.
Youngstown State will find out where they will be slotted in the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday, May 2 at 5:30p.m. EST.
