INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State senior forward Brandi Brown and Penguins junior third baseman Drew Dosch have been voted the Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Month for February.
It is the third honor of the academic year for Brown, who also won in November and December. Brown garnered 55.6 percent of the February voting, while Dosch received 88.9 percent.
A communications major, Brown carries a 3.75 GPA. She was named a first team Academic All-American on Feb. 21, the first time a female from Youngstown State has earned the honor and the first Horizon League women's basketball player since 1999. She is a two-time Academic All-Horizon League selection.
Brown averaged 21.6 ppg in seven contests during the month of February, totaling 151 points. She posted two 30-point efforts, including a then-career-high 39 against UIC. The senior recorded five double-doubles, including 18 rebounds in a win over Detroit.
Dosch majors in Integrated Social Studies Education and carries a 3.96 GPA. He was an Academic All-Horizon League selection in 2012 and was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American second team. The junior was the featured male student-athlete speaker at Feb. 19's YSU Scholarship/Ring Banquet.
In Youngstown State's first eight games, Dosch hit. 429 (12-for-28) with six doubles, a triple and a home run. He posted five multi-hit games while scoring six runs and driving in three. With his help, the Penguins defeated West Virginia in the program's first-ever win over a Big 12 school.
