North Olmsted, Ohio -- Youngstown State men's golfer Ross Beal has earned a spot at the 104th U.S. Amateur Championship, which will be held at the famed Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaronek, N.Y., this August 16-22.

Beal qualified for the event by winning the U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifier at the Lakes Forest Country Club and Fox Den Golf Course in North Olmsted on Monday. Beal's 36-hole score of 140 topped Justin Smith of Franklin, Pa., by one stroke. Beal had rounds of 66 and 74 en route to winning the qualifier with his 140.

The top five finishers at the Sectional meet -- Beal, Smith, David Pulk, Brad Coleman and John Matune -- earned spots in the U.S. Amateur event.

The legendary Winged Foot Course has played host to nine USGAChampionships, including four U.S. Opens. Each golfer will play 36 holes with the remaining 64 individuals moving on to match play for the remainder of the tournament.
