Youngstown State's Hamilton, Milwaukee's Brusky Nab Cross Country Runner of the Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State senior Samantha Hamilton (North Jackson, Ohio) and Milwaukee sophomore Weston Brusky (Oconto Falls, Wis.) have been named Horizon League Runners of the Week for the week of Sept. 10-16.

After redshirting in 2012 and making her 2013 season debut, Hamilton bested a field of 86 runners at the Bowling Green Mel Brodt Invitational. Her 5K time of 16:52:67 was over 16 seconds clear of second place. The victory is Hamilton’s third career win and first Horizon League Cross Country Runner of the Week honor.

Brusky opened up the 2013 season with a second place finish at the Concordia (Wis.) Invitational over the weekend. His 8K time of 25:36 led Milwaukee to an overall team title. This is Brusky’s first Horizon League Cross Country Runner of the Week honor.

Youngstown State has three weeks off before competing next at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4. Milwaukee is in action next week at the College of DuPage Invitational on Friday, September 27.

Top Runners for the Week:
Ally Anich, Milwaukee (Fr., Racine, Wis.) - Finished in first place at the Concordia (Wis.) Invitational, breaking the course record in her collegiate debut with a 6K time of 21:45. Led the Panters to a team title at the event.
Sarah Mauel, Green Bay (So., Green Bay, Wis.) - Finished in second place with a 6K time of 22:27 and also led Green Bay to a second place finish at the Concordia (Wis.) Invitational.
Ashlyn Woods, Cleveland State (Fr., Mentor, Ohio) - Woods set a career-best 5K time of 19:13 at the Ohio Invitational, good for fifth place.
Kyle Hauser, UIC (Fr., Palos Heights, Ill.) - Hauser set a career-best 8K time of 25:45.91 at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships.
Tess Ehrnhardt, UIC (Jr. Geneva, Ill.) - Set a career-best 5K mark of 17:44.01 at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships.
Austin McLean, Youngstown State (So., West Jefferson, Ohio) - McClean finished in sixth place at the Bowling Green Mel Brodt Invitational with an 8K time of 25.43.19.
