INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State sophomore Samantha Hamilton (North Jackson, Ohio) has been named the Horizon League Women’s Track and Field Runner of the Week, while Wright State sophomore Kylie Kopp (Tipp City, Ohio) has been selected the League’s Field Athlete of the Week, for the week beginning Feb. 7.
Competing at the Akron Invitational, Youngstown State’s penultimate meet until the Horizon League Championships, Hamilton finished sixth in the mile in the gold division of the meet, setting a new Penguins indoor record in 4:56.21.
The time currently ranks as the fourth-best time in the Horizon League during the indoor season.
At the same meet, Kopp rewrote the Wright State record books in the pentathlon, scoring 3,239 points to set the top mark in Raiders history. Kopp’s effort is the best in the League in the season.
Youngstown State will prep for the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Kent State Tune Up on Feb. 18-19, while the Wright State women will not compete again prior to the League championships.
