INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State seniors Alexis Washington (Lorain, Ohio) and Clay Febus (Medina, Ohio) have been named Horizon League Indoor Track Runners of the Week.
Competing in the YSU Icebreaker at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS), Washington took second out of seven competitors in the 60m dash with a time of 7.81. In the 200m dash, the senior registered a 25.60 to score a second-place finish out of 33 competitors. Washington also teamed up with Jen Shiley, Alteeka Vanwright and Alexis Cooper to register a second-place finish out of 10 relay teams in the 4x400m. The Penguin relay team completed the event in 4:02.22.
Febus, meanwhile, registered a win in the 60m hurdles. His time of 8.24 bested seven other runners. He also teamed up with John Helms, Marcellus Embry and Robin Hall in the 4x400m relay. Their time of 3:28.03 was good for second out of the eleven relay teams.
Following the holiday break, Washington, Febus and the rest of the Penguins will return to action on Jan. 24 at the YSU Invitational.
Other Top Runners of the Week:
Charles Anthony, Detroit (Sr., Northville, Mich.) - Placed second in the 60m Blue and Gold Invite at Notre Dame with a 6.99 in the 60m dash. Also registered a fifth-place finish in the 200m dash.
Nicholas Girodat, Oakland (Fr., Ann Arbor, Mich.) - Placed seventh in the 60m dash in 6.99 at the Mastodon Opener. The time puts the freshman second all-time in Oakland’s record book.
Allison Garner, Detroit (So., South Bend, Ind.) - Finished fourth in the 60m dash and sixth in the 200m dash at the Blue and Gold Invite.
Serena San Cartier, Oakland (Sr., Sudbury, Ontario, Canada) - San Cartier was just .35 seconds behind first-place in the 60m hurdles. Her time of 8.94 ranks third all-time in school history.
Savanna Termuhlen, Wright State (Sr., Milford, Ohio) - Was a double-winner in the 60m dash (7.96) and the 4x200m relay (1.46.88) at the Purple & White Invitational.
