INDIANAPOLIS— Horizon League Women's Athlete of the Year Tess Ehrhardt led all Horizon League runners at today's NCAA Regionals. UIC, the only Horizon League school at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa, was led by Ehrhardt's 24th place finish. By virtue of her finish, Ehrhardt was named to the All-Region team. The senior plotted the course in 21:06.73, leading the Flames to a 25th place finish in the 30-team field.
Two-time Midwest Regional champion and host No. 7 Iowa State added its third Regional title in as many years.
The other Horizon League cross country programs found itself at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis. The course plays host to the annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational in mid-October, regarded as one of the premier cross country events in the country.
Not to be outdone, today’s NCAA Great Lakes Regional featured four schools on each the men’s and women’s side ranked inside the USTFCCCA top 25 poll.
No. 19 Wisconsin looked to add their 12th Great Lakes Regional Championship in as many years, but Big Ten foe No. 16 Michigan stopped the Badgers on their home course. The Wolverines narrowly clipped the Badgers, 73-70.
Horizon League Champion Detroit finished 19th in the 31-team field, leading a contingent of Horizon League schools. Wright State finished 22nd, Youngstown State 24th, Milwaukee 27th, Valparaiso 29th, and Green Bay 30th.
Junior Eric Rupe (71st) of Youngstown State, the Horizon League Men's Athlete of the Year, registered a 10K time of 32:21. Following Rupe was Detroit senior Martin Nelkie (75th), senior Dan Shafer (94th) of Wright State and Detroit junior Ryan Hofsess (97th).
On the women’s side, No. 14 Michigan added their third Great Lakes Regional Championships in as many years scoring 48 points.
Youngstown State led the Horizon League schools, placing 19th in the 33-team field. The Horizon League Champions were paced by Anna Pompeo. The junior finished in 42nd place running a 6K time of 21:25. Senior Louisa Coppola of Detroit was close behind, caping her career in 47th place. Penguin freshman McKinsie Klim posted a top-100 finish, finishing in 88th.
After Youngstown State, Oakland finished 24th, Detroit 26th, Milwaukee 27th, Valparaiso 30th, Green Bay 31st, Cleveland State 32nd and Wright State 33rd.
