INDIANAPOLIS – Wright State senior Dan Shafer, Detroit sophomore Martha Dunbar and UIC junior Tess Ehrhardt have been named the Horizon League’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month for October.
Shafer carries a 3.96 GPA as an accountancy major and was an Academic All-League selection in 2011-12 and 2012-13. In 2012-13, Shafer was the recipient of Wright State’s Dr. Carl Benner Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. He is also on the Horizon League and Wright State Honor Roll.
Shafer led the Raiders at the All-Ohio Championships finishing 16th overall and placed second at the Wilmington Fall Classic. At the Horizon League Cross Country Championship, Shafer finished second with a time of 25:50.51 earning him All-League First Team honors.
As a mechanical engineering major, Dunbar carries a 4.0 GPA in her sophomore year at Detroit.
Dunbar posted shutouts in three Horizon League victories as the goalkeeper for the Titans, helping the team to a 3-2 conference record. She made a career-high nine saves against Milwaukee and held a .66 goals against average.
Ehrhardt holds a 3.45 GPA as a biology major and was named to the 2012-13 Horizon League Honor Roll. In 2012, she was also named to the Horizon League Winter Academic All-League Team.
Leading the Flames, Ehrhardt placed first at the Horizon League Cross Country Championship in a 5K time of 17:47.63. She was crowned the Horizon League Women’s Athlete of the Year and earned All-League First Team accolades. Ehrhardt was also named the Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week two times and the Horizon League Runner of the Week three-consecutive weeks.
