INDIANAPOLIS -- Detroit junior midfielder Adam Bedell (Livonia, Mich.) is the Horizon League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Green Bay sophomore goalkeeper Max Nimmo (Janesville, Wis.) has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 3-9. The award is the first of both players’ careers.
Detroit (2-4-0) split its road trip through Buffalo, N.Y., knocking off Buffalo, 2-1, before suffering a 4-2 setback to Canisius. Bedell scored in each of the matches, giving him tallies in each of his last three matches. With three goals and seven points, Bedell sits in a tie for second in each category among Horizon League players.
Against the Bulls, the 6-foot-6 Bedell skied above the defense for Detroit’s first goal of the match. The junior earned an assist on the eventual game-winning goal as well, helping draw the keeper out before Matt Harkema converted the goal.
On Sunday, Bedell scored what was the equalizing goal against Canisius in the second half. With the Titans trailing 2-1, Bedell took a short pass from Cameron Roberts inside the 18-yard box and beat the goalkeeper to tie the game, 2-2, in the 61st minute.
Nimmo stood tall for Green Bay (2-2-1), earning his first career shutout in the Phoenix’s 0-0 draw with Missouri State at the Dayton Marriott Classic. Playing for the injured Ryan Wehking, Nimmo made seven saves in the match, including five in the second half and overtime to preserve the clean sheet.
Bedell and Nimmo will meet this Friday, Sept. 14, in the teams’ Horizon League opener. Green Bay will travel to Detroit for a 4 p.m. ET match.
