TUCSON, Ariz. -- Wright State University senior Jeff Mercer and Valparaiso University sophomore Jarad Miller have been named to the Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team as announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Mercer, a first baseman from Bargersville, Ind., was named 2009 Horizon League Player of the Year and helped third-seeded Wright State to a conference tournament crown last week.
Mercer enters the NCAA Baseball Championship with a .360 batting average, eight home runs, 26 doubles, 53 runs and 73 RBI in 61 games for the Raiders this season.
Miller, a right-handed closer from Fort Wayne, Ind., is currently tied for second in the nation with 17 saves. He posted an 0-2 record, 2.16 ERA and .178 batting average against in 23 relief appearances for the Crusaders in 2009.
Wright State, which owns a 33-28 record, opens NCAA Tournament play at Texas Christian University on Friday at 8 p.m. ET. The Raiders are a No. 4 seed in the double-elimination regional.
Valparaiso, in just its second season as a Horizon League member, finished the campaign 28-24.
